Rochat_Neuchatel_31 august 2000

The rain falls and the sky is very dark, when Olivier comes in. We are in Auvernier by Neuchatel, in the french part of switzerland where GTO Evolution prepares his rally cars, most of them Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. After some preliminar information we drive up to a place named Rochat. On a closed military road, we will experience what rallying means and try to give you this incredible experience one to one through the web.

It is quite cold today, so we will drive the car slowly, in order to bring motor, tyres and the rast of the mechanical parts at working temperature. The Group N exhaust noise rember us that this car is a bit special, to handle with respect and responsability. The PROFLEX suspensions are beautiful and we feel that all is ready top start up.

Start up? Yes, firing the ANTI LAG SYSTEM after the first meters, the car becomes another life character. The noise changes from serious to furious. Impossible to describe it. First, second, third, the bend is there, left 90 degrees. Olivier GILLET is driving. Now, on the brakes. From the right border of the road he bring the car to the left, than changes to the right side. The car slides to the right. Now you will think...oh good! Handbrake, the car change direction, this time to the left, in to the bend. You have now the internal border of the bend in front of the front bumper. No, we are not parking, we have about 50kmh on the tacho, when Olivier change up and up to the next bend.

At this time you will think, OK, let me out, slow down please. No. Like a TAXI driver Olivier continues, a right bend, a left bend, a right bend, a left bend. And then down, a longer stright line. The tacho signs 120 kmh as i look at a little right bend. I hope he will slow down, put the right foot on the brake!

No matter. Olivier right foot stays on the gas, in fourth gear we take the bend with the right half of the lancer evolution in the green....landing after 20 meters woth all the wheels on the road...

Here comes the second right bend... one more time in the green..... Than a 45 degrees left bend, full second gear...sliding for many meters, before the second lap begins.....ohhhh....

Thank you Olivier for your wonderful rallying style, behind the wheel and in the normal life.
