| Not only the World Rally Championship but local events too can offer unique fun and emotions looking at the local stars running their rally cars. This time we went to the 2001 Rally ASAT, on the south side of the Alps, in a country where the sunshine and the blue sky let the enthousiastics dream on their local matadors. | |
| Loris Kessel, a local driver with racing pédigree starting with a beautiful Impreza WRC fighted till the last special stage in order to get the leadership on Giacomo Ogliari who showed a perfect control of his worktool: a Corolla WRC. Some Kit-Cars tried without success to disturb the two WRC fighters but without any chance. No Mégane KitCar or Saxo Kit Car had the chance to come closed to Ogliari or Kessel. On this little mountains roads maybe the turbo-torque peaks of the WRC cars allowed the two leader to keep a secure distance from the following "aspirated" dream teams. | |
| In the middle of
the battle the Group N cars wasn't much slower and Sulmoni (Lancer Evo
6) or Krattiger (Lancer Evo 6) tried to reach the third place overall
but without success. The Group N leader Sulmoni disappeared after a few
special stages. Till there he showed a good potential and we believe
that in the future he will get some very good result with his silver evo
6. Krattiger finished on the fourth place overall but had no chance to
overtake a fantastic Hotz and his red Saxo KitCar 1600. A storm of
Peugeot 106 Rally/renault Clio/Saxos and even some M3s and Opel Manta
followed and showed that a good driver can enjoy the spectators also
with an "historic" car or like the 106s with a few BHPs!
